AMMO officially stands for Architectures for Massively Multiagent Online, it offers multiagent framework but also way much beyond that.
The name AMMO traces its origins to groundbreaking research in multiagent systems, directly originated from OpenAI's Neural MMO: A Massively Multiagent Game Environment. It was further refined in Neural MMO 2.0: A Massively Multi-task Addition to Massively Multi-agent Learning (NeurIPS 2023), where our team member was one of the driving force.
But despite the official name, we all have our preferred nicknames for AMMO. Our deep technical researchers often refer to it as Agent MMO (Agent Massive Multiplayer Online), a term closest to the original research works. In contrast, our marketing and product folks affectionately call it Awakened Massively Multiagent Odyssey. But one meaning unites us all: the "A" in AMMO also stands for Amor (Love) --- our fundamental value. Love Alignment, in our opinion, probably is the most critical aspect of AI development, as we strongly believe that AI is never about technology, it's always about humans.
At its heart, AMMO is building a protocol for a symbiotic AI-human future. It represents a cutting-edge paradigm: a symbiotic ecosystem where humanity and AI not only coexist, co-live but co-evolve. It embodies a transcendent, interconnected world that breaks traditional barriers --- physical, intellectual, and creative.
